Food is a big part of people’s lives and should be enjoyed. All our food is homemade and, where possible, locally sourced. We use the local butchers and greengrocers, and we have consistently been rated five stars for the food we provide
Breakfast time is whenever someone wants to get up. When a resident moves in, we ask them what time they like to get up and if they would like waking with a hot drink. When someone is up, we ask them what they want to eat. People have the option of breakfast in bed or downstairs.
Daily Dining at The Chestnuts
Breakfast - Our residents choose when they would like breakfast, depending on when they wake up.
Mid-Morning Drinks and Snacks - At 10 a.m., we will offer all residents hot drinks and snacks. The snack is normally something small like biscuits, although we are always happy to offer alternatives if people have other requests.
Lunch - At 12 pm, we have a traditional home-cooked lunch and dessert with a soft drink.
After Lunch - At 1 pm, after lunch is finished, we offer hot drinks to our residents.
Mid-Afternoon Drinks and Snacks - At 3 pm, we offer hot drinks and a snack. The snack often depends on the weather. We offer snacks such as homemade cakes, biscuits, or fudge if it's cold. If it's hot, it could be homemade knickerbocker glories, ice cream sundaes, lollies, or jellies.
Dinner - At 5 pm, we serve dinner and a hot drink. At dinner, we will suggest a main meal option, but people are welcome to choose something else, and we will happily cater to this.
Supper - At 7 pm, we will offer a hot drink and supper.
Soft drinks are available 24/7, and extra hot drinks and cakes are available upon request. Visitors are always welcome to drinks and homemade cakes.
A lot of elderly people are at risk of dehydration We have solved this problem by offering drinks continually throughout the day. Usually, if everyone has a hot drink, people join in to be sociable, therefore reducing the risk of dehydration.
Although plenty of food and drinks are always available, we know that large portions put some people off. We get to know every resident individually. If large quantities of food put off your loved one, we offer small portions to suit them. Eating little and often is just as healthy.
